West Virginia based guitarist David White submitted his instrumental CD-R entitled Sci Fi Guitar, an entirely modern sounding pairing of live drums/loops (arranged with a techno feel) with high tech guitar playing. One of White's main goals is to be as creative as possible while being true to his inner musical voice, and that accounts for the sound innovations you'll find on Sci Fi Guitar. Will you hear Pentium 4-speed fretwork? Yes, at times, White chooses to step on the gas and just burn, but he can also play meaningful phrases and lines at just about any speed (easier said than done), reminiscent of David Gilmour and his work while leading Pink Floyd. The track "Final Frontier" is a good example of this; kind of an encapsulated summary of what the album as a whole has in store. It's clear that if White keeps pursing his well thought out vision, instrumental guitar fans will have a lot more creatively heavy music to look forward to. David White was originally profiled in the April-May, 2004 edition of The Undiscovered.
David started playing guitar at the age of 15, and now has over 19 years of playing experience. He has toured the country playing with nationally known bands such as Full Devil Jacket (renamed Waxbox). David also was the guitarist for country music artist Lila McCann for three years, but left the whole country scene behind, due to a lack of 'true' creativity. He left Nashville in order to pursue his own way of playing guitar, and wrote and recorded Sci Fi Guitar shortly thereafter. David's early influences included Gary Moore, Randy Rhoads, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen and John Sikes, and lately he has been excited about Michael Landau, Scott Henderson, Hans Zimmer and Patrick O'Hearn. He is currently working on a Spanish/New Age CD, and is looking into other styles as well. David also plans to enhance his web site, making it more elaborate and adding more information.
White's future goals include producing music for his own label, and generate enough demand to tour the world. He has also mentioned his availability to produce other artists and bands - to help them get the sound they hear in their heads.
