Landscapes Of Life, on Lonesome Owl Music, is guitarist Gary Kuhstoss' latest cassette release, featuring five compositions that epitomize instrumental guitar music: fiery electric guitar lines, dark, sweet acoustic work and compelling melodic concepts. Kuhstoss, based in Lindenhurst, Illinois, points to various influences, such as Al Di Meola and Uli Jon Roth, as inspirations for the musical approach he has taken on Landscapes Of Life. With the attitude of a true musician, Kuhstoss strives to create his own personal style of playing--but with due respect and thanks to the guitarists that have inspired him. It's clear Kuhstoss only needs to continue to write and record to reach his full potential as an artist.
Initially spurred on by the music of Styx, Triumph and Rush, Gary took up the guitar at age fourteen. In high school he explored heavier material, such as Scorpions, Michael Schenker and Queensryche, and felt himself being drawn to music with great guitar players. Gary gained more confidence in his abilities while attending college, and discovered the virtuosity of the Shrapnel guitarists, as well as Di Meola and Roth. In 1990, Gary began playing guitar for contemporary Christian group, and averaged thirty live gigs a year from 1990 to 1993. The desire to write and record his own brand of music led to the creation of Landscapes Of Life.
Kuhstoss is currently working on a new CD, which is slated for release in 1998. He maintains a web site that has samples of his new music in progress, as well as music from his first tape, "Musical Tapestries."
