Manuel Canto's demo cassette is a compilation of the best material from a flamenco cassette album entitled Aurora. Canto, a resident of Australia, has recorded a brilliant suite of flamenco pieces fused with modern accompaniment. Canto's playing showcases developed improvisational skills and his considerable talents as an arranger and composer. The music on Aurora would delight fans of Ottmar Liebert and Lara & Reyes, as Canto approaches his orchestrations in the same accessible style, carefully balancing technical passages with lyrical nylon-string melodicism. Flamenco certainly is alive and well Down Under.
Manuel began playing the guitar at the age of eight. A guitar correspondence course from the Conservatorium of Madrid was completed by the age of fourteen and he received a diploma of guitar. He then began studying classical guitar at the Sydney Conservatorium under Ken Burn, while studying flamenco guitar at home. Later, Manuel began flamenco guitar tuition with Miguel Rivera, pupil of the great "Sabicas." He has performed for the Shell National Folkloric Festival at the Sydney Opera House. Manuel went on to travel to Spain to further refine his flamenco guitar technique.
Canto would now like to record a new album with a reliable record label in order to achieve his goal of reaching a worldwide audience.
