Delivering his jazz lines with a gorgeously rounded tone and his most appealing guitar playing to date is Ohio State University's jazz professor Tim Cummiskey on his 2003 CD release Redeeming The Time. Offering sixty minutes of dynamic jazz, the CD also features Hank Marr (co-writer with Cummiskey on "Hank's Riff") on organ and Jim Rupp on drums. Rupp also worked with Cummiskey on his first CD, "Alone Together", and his playing perfectly supports the improvisational gambits undertaken by Marr and Cummiskey on songs by Wayne Shorter ("Black Nile"), Sam Jones ("Unit 7"), Bill Evans ("Time Remembered") and the Cummiskey original, "Fever Dream". After studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the early '90s, Tim received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from Capital University 1994. In 1996, he received his Masters Degree in Guitar Performance from Bowling Green State University. Numerous academic and performance awards as well as appearances as featured performer at numerous jazz festivals highlighted Tim's collegiate career. Tim currently serves as a member of the Jazz Studies faculty of the Ohio State University School of Music and the music faculty of Kenyon College. He is also a contributing writer to Downbeat Magazine and Just Jazz Guitar Magazine.
Cummiskey currently leads several groups ranging from solo jazz and classical guitar to group configurations including duos, The Tim Cummiskey Trio, and The Tim Cummiskey Quartet.
